You got hurt in a wreck that was not your fault, and an adjuster is already hinting that you share some of the blame. Medical bills are showing up before you have even seen a doctor twice. You are doing math in your head that has nothing to do with getting better. It has everything to do with a new Louisiana rule that can wipe out your entire claim if a jury decides you were 51% responsible.
That is exactly the moment a Carencro personal injury lawyer is supposed to step in, before the adjuster’s version of events becomes the only version anyone hears. Richard R. Kennedy has practiced Louisiana civil law since 1965, and the firm has represented Acadiana families through cases as large as a $3 million bicycle collision and as small as a $15,000 sideswipe.
Reach out and tell us what happened, and we will start building the other side of the story today.
We represent people hurt through no fault of their own across Carencro and the rest of Lafayette Parish, including claims involving:
We build each case with the same commitment from day one, working to gather the facts while memories are fresh and handling the paperwork so you can take time to heal.
We would rather show you than tell you. Here is what you can verify independently, before you ever pick up the phone:
When you need help with your claim, you can trust our experienced Carencro personal injury attorney to help.
Until this year, Louisiana let you recover damages no matter how much of an accident was your fault, even if a jury said you were 90% responsible. That changed for accidents occurring on or after January 1, 2026. Under the amended comparative fault law, La. Civil Code art. 2323, a jury that finds you 51% or more at fault can leave you with nothing, no matter how serious your injuries are. If you are 50% or less, then your recovery is reduced by your percentage of fault.
Insurance companies know this rule now works in their favor. Expect an adjuster to push hard for a fault finding that crosses that line, especially in the recorded statement they ask for right after the crash. What you say in the first 48 hours can matter more than it ever has before, and so can what you do not say. That is why so many Carencro families call us before they return the insurance company’s call.

Numbers are easy to promise and hard to prove. These are actual results from our own case files, not hypothetical examples built to sound impressive.
| Outcome | Case Type |
| Over $3 million | Truck collision with a bicyclist, traumatic brain injury |
| $325,000 | Rear-end crash in Lafayette, neck and back injuries |
| $15,000 | Sideswipe crash, soft tissue neck injury |
Prior results do not guarantee a similar outcome in your case, and every claim is valued on its own facts.
Adjusters often blame the injured person first to justify a lower offer, and they will use anything you say on a recorded call to support that number. We investigate independently, gather the police report and any witness statements, and build the evidence that shows what happened before any number gets accepted on your behalf.
Nothing upfront. Personal injury cases are handled on a contingency fee, so our fee comes out of what we recover, and you pay nothing if we do not win your case.
It depends on your medical treatment and how quickly the insurance company negotiates in good faith. Some cases settle in months once treatment ends, and others take longer when a fair offer never shows up on the table.
Louisiana generally gives you two years from the date of the accident to file a claim, under La. Civil Code art. 3493.1. Miss that window and you likely lose the right to recover anything, no matter how strong your case would have been. While there are some exceptions, it is crucial to act quickly. Our attorney can help you determine the filing deadline for your case.
You can recover your medical bills, lost wages, and property damage, along with compensation for pain and suffering and any long-term impact on your daily life. If your injury keeps you from working in the future or requires ongoing treatment, those costs count too.
Carencro sits inside Lafayette Parish, and we represent injured clients throughout the parish, including Carencro, Lafayette, Broussard, and Youngsville, along with the surrounding Acadiana communities our firm has served since 1965.
